Overcoming Stress, Lasting Life Food Ministry & More

The Word Seed

Greetings!

Things are moving; things are changing!

We had a great service this past Wednesday with Pastor Bob Rodgers at our NEW LOCATION.  The atmosphere was amazing.

A special thank you for everyone who helped move equipment to make it a special night.

...for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.  Nehemiah 8:10

There is a powerful truth I want to share with you here.

Many times when there are changes, especial relocations in our lives turmoil, confusion and negativity tries to creep up on us.  Change is hard for us to handle sometimes, even when its good change.

Last year, my family moved to Southern Indiana.  Wow.  A much bigger house, closer to the church and who wouldn't want to be a Hoosier, right?

Our children loved it.  They were closer to their friends from church.  They got bigger rooms.  And they did not have to endure the long drive every time we went to church.

Even though it was a great move, they loved the house and they were glad to be there, it was hard them at times.  Several nights, Erin and I would have to comfort one of the children.  Feelings of insecurity, missing familiar things and learning new things would become overwhelming.

With a little comfort and much prayer, they overcame and have not looked back.

As the church moves location, we can sometimes battle the same things as well.

I want to give you some pointers to over coming stress from this verse of Scripture:

1.  Make it holy to God.  In other words, stay focused on God and His Purposes.  Our flesh, with the willing assistance of the enemy, will resist some changes in our lives.  During times of transition we are tempted to look at the negatives instead of celebrating the positives.

By focusing on the fact that we are led by God, we will overcome the temptation to become negative.  He always leads us to a great place.

2.  Do not sorrow.  When transitions come, we will get into a grieving place in our soul.  I have seen times where people have gotten a new home and a heaviness came on them.  They started bickering with one another and could not get along.

The revelation in this verse is we can choose not to sorrow.  When God says "don't" that means we have the capacity to determine whether we control that behavior.  Sorrow and grief are decisions that are made by us.  The good news is that they can be un-made by us.

One of the most powerful ways to overcome heaviness is with praise.  Isaiah 61:3 says, "the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness."

Notice the Bible calls heaviness a "spirit".  It must be resisted.  And it is over come with a decision to put on a "garment of praise."

3.  Joy=strength.  Now is the time celebrate with the joy of the Lord in our hearts!  He is moving and has released His Favor on this move.  We are positioned like never before to expand our out reach for the Kingdom.

Some have told me that they dont have joy.  That means one of two things: 1.  they dont have the Holy Spirit in them or 2.  they are not making the decision to tap into the Holy Spirit in them.

How can I say that?  Joy is a fruit of the Spirit.  Galatians 5:22.  If we have the Holy Spirit living in us, the joy is there with Him.  We have to tap into it by faith.

Let me encourage you to stay focused on what God is doing, resist sorrow with praise and tap into the joy of the Lord thats already on the inside of you.

In summary, as I would say to my children, "Its ok."

We love you very much,

Pastor John Carmichael
