Right Actions Does Not Always Guarantee Right Results... especially when it includes other people.
"as much as depends on you"... meaning you do what you can do to be a peace with others. But notice:
"If it is possible"... the "if" means its not guaranteed.
Why? God doesn't make people do anything: right or wrong. You can do everything possible to live a peace with others, yet God will allow the other person to reject peace.
Question: so why even try to "live peaceably with all men"? After all that can be hard heart wrenching work.
Answer: obedience (the real response to loving God) rather than results. We aim to live peaceable the others we love God and obey Him. We desire the results, but that is not why we choose peace.
Also note: many times your efforts will produce the desired result of peace.
Remember: God will take care of you even if the other person chooses wrongly.
"If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord." Romans 12:18-19
