THE BATTLE
What an encouraging verse!
Jehoshaphat and the people, were being surrounded by their enemy. As was often the case, their enemies were many and their resources were few. Survival was in doubt and victory was a fantasy.
What is the right reaction to that situation?
Many times it seems like that is our situation. Our enemies may not be from distant places or have hard sounding names, but still as potent. Our eyes tell us in vivid detail the strength of our adversary and our mind reminds us mercilessly our weakness.
Notice: Jehoshaphat's prayer.
It has to be observed he and the people sought God. Isn't that what everyone does? No. Many just throw up a religious half-hearted attempt to seek God. Yet, they will talk 100 times more about the issue to the friends, family and foes than to their Father.
Prayer of Faith or Fear
While the king did pray, was it a prayer of faith or fear? Opinions aside, there are probably better prayer patterns to follow than his. Jehoshaphat's prayer is from the position of before the cross and resurrection. Meaning he was not able to enjoy the authority we believers have today. We can pray in faith with authority over our circumstances.
One would be benefited to understand the authority of the believer. Today, only the prayer offered in faith obtains anything. There needs to be an understanding of how to pray based on the Word of God with full expectation of an answer.
Gods Response
When we pray, God answers. In Jehoshaphat's case, God raised up a man to proclaim the answer. Does God always do it just like that? No, He doesn't.
This is important, we can always expect a result yet we can't dictate the method.
A Promise
We can stand on the promises of God. The Spirit of the Lord came upon a man to proclaim direction and comfort. That is what they needed... that is what we need. Direction and comfort.
As we seek Him patiently, He will show us our part. Sometimes is rise up and fight. Sometimes is be still and trust. Direction is vital in every situation.
Then He lets us know what to expect. The Father promised them, He would give them victory. Comforting children is one of the responsibilities of the a parent. Our Father does not neglect to provide comfort for His children especially during trying times. Remember He is the God of all Comfort. II Corinthians 1:3-4
